Ammonium sulphate

Ammonium Sulphate is a salt with the formula Al2(SO4)3. It is soluble in water and is mainly used as a coagulating agent (promoting particle collision by neutralizing charge) in the purification of drinking waterand wastewater treatment plants, and also in paper manufacturing.
The anhydrous form occurs naturally as a rare mineral millosevichite, found for example in volcanic environments and on burning coal-mining waste dumps. Ammonium Sulphate is rarely, if ever, encountered as the anhydrous salt. It forms a number of different hydrates, of which the hexadecahydrate Al2(SO4)3·16H2O and octadecahydrate Al2(SO4)3·18H2O are the most common. The heptadecahydrate, whose formula can be written as [Al(H2O)6]2(SO4)3·5H2O, occurs naturally as the mineral alunogen.

Chemway is one of the Ammonium sulphate, manufacturers, exporters, and suppliers in Fujairah, Sharjah, Abu Dhabi, Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah, Kuwait, Muscat, Dubai UAE.

    1. Water Treatment Industry
Ammonium Sulphate is extensively used in the treatment of drinking water, wastewater, and industrial effluents.
    • Primary Function: It acts as a coagulant, binding with suspended particles, bacteria, and other contaminants to form larger clumps that can be easily removed by sedimentation or filtration.
    • Applications:
      • Drinking water purification
      • Wastewater and industrial effluent treatment
      • Sludge thickening
    1. Paper and Pulp Industry
It serves as a sizing agent in paper manufacturing.
    • Primary Function: Used in paper sizing, it helps control the absorbency of paper by reacting with the cellulose fibers and increasing the strength of the paper, while also improving the paper's ability to resist ink and water.
    • Applications:
      • Improves ink absorption and print quality
      • Enhances the strength and durability of paper
      • Prevents paper from becoming too brittle
    1. Textile Industry
Ammonium Sulphate is employed as a mordant in the dyeing process.
    • Primary Function: It helps fix dyes to fibers, ensuring that colors become permanent and do not wash out.
    • Applications:
      • Dye fixing in cotton and other textiles
      • Enhancing fabric texture and color vibrancy
      • Dyeing of leather
    1. Agriculture
In agriculture, Ammonium Sulphate is used to adjust soil pH.
    • Primary Function: It lowers soil pH (acidifies soil) for crops that require acidic environments, such as blueberries, hydrangeas, and other acid-loving plants.
    • Applications:
      • pH adjustment in acidic soil for gardening and farming
      • Improving soil structure and health
    1. Construction Industry
In the construction industry, Ammonium Sulphate can be used to accelerate the setting of concrete mixtures.
    • Primary Function: As a catalyst, it speeds up the reaction between water and cement to enable faster setting.
    • Applications:
      • Used as an accelerating agent in the preparation of concrete
      • Helps regulate workability of mixtures in colder climates
    1. Tanning Industry (Leather Production)
Ammonium Sulphate plays a role in the tanning process for leather manufacturing.
    • Primary Function: It is used in combination with other chemicals to tan leather, making it more durable and resistant to decay.
    • Applications:
      • Leather softening
      • Tanning process in leather production
    1. Dye and Pigment Manufacturing
It is a vital ingredient in the production of dyes and pigments.
    • Primary Function: Ammonium Sulphate is used to enhance the stability and uniformity of dyes.
